About this Site

WELCOME

I started this site in 1999 as part of my Masters dissertation on Work and Culture in the Nuclear Power Industry. At the time it was difficult to find information on Nuclear Safety Culture, so this site is meant to be a hub on the subject where interested parties can post papers and share ideas. The cost of maintaining this site is supported through purchases made through the Amazon.Com links on this site. Please keep this in mind if you find this site helpful.  Since this site was first posted, it has been accessed from all over the world. An icon embedded on this site tracks certain user statistics, which users are welcome to access at any time. I welcome e-mail feedback about my site. It is uncommon for me not to reply within 48 hours. Many users of my site contact me about similar research they are conducting and ask about referring to my work or site. I am also interested in others work, and encourage writers to send me working papers or publications for posting on my site.

TWO CRITICISMS I RECEIVE OFTEN ABOUT MY SITE

"I AM A PROFESSIONAL SAFETY CONSULTANT AND WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU GIVE THIS INFORMATION AWAY FOR FREE?"

Although these consultants correctly identify that my livelihood does not depend on consulting work, I am a firm believer that there is no mystique to Worker Safety Systems. The role of the consultant is to help create and implement a paradigm shift for management and workers, and not to safeguard basic information.

"WHY DO YOU LIST LINKS FOR ANTI-NUKES"

I am a firm believer that a safe nuclear industry requires an open exchange of concerns and ideas to create a creative tension among stakeholders, similar to that between management and labor in a high-performing nuclear station. This open dialogue promotes trust and integrity, while reinforcing the stakeholder concerns that drive emphasis on safety and reliability.
